| Sam would like to send a special hello to several very very kind people
who have been in touch over the past few weeks. First here was Aunty Steffi,
Uncle Marcus and Cousin Shaanon in London who sent over a huge parcel of
clothes, books and toys. Sam, looks partiocuarly snappy in his cheque trousers.
Sam made it quite clear that it was about time Cousin Shaanon and his mum
and dad came over to Australia for a longgggggg visit.
Then in November Sam received a wonderful book in the mail from America. It is called Wolfie-The Wolf Eel, and was written and illustrated by Jacqueline Vickery Stanley. It is a superb book, and was sent to Sam by the author, who signed it with the words, "To Sam, with good wishes from Wolf-eel country." This was a wonderfully kind gesture by Jacqueline and came about by contact with Sam's dad in regard to publishing matters. If you would like to have a copy of this book, contact Sam and he will pass on the adddress in the USA. Sam has a big hug waiting for Jacqueline. |

Sam is certainly growing up, now 21 months going on four years. His determination is expressed by bird imitations - flapping his arms up and down and squarking like a demented hawk-owl. But he doesn't sulk and any tantrums due to frustration are soon forgotten. He understands what we are saying but has not managed any words other than the customary Mummy and Daddy which he gets quite mixed up and we tell Sam that Mummy is the one with bumps. Actually Mummy is the one with a limp as she has not been well and after a week of bad back pain, Mummy tripped over one of Sam's toys and tore two ankle ligaments. Sam has also been in the wars. First, it was a header into his bedroom door jamb at full pelt, resulting in a bump on the forehead the size of an egg and extensive bruising. The doctor said it was nothing, and not to be alarmed by the bruising which will extend down his face. It stopped at his eye and he had a massive shiner for a week. During this time, he decided to even things up, and took a tumble off his rocking chair into the lounge window sill, splitting the skin under the other eye, and again with bruises and scratches. Fortunately we had a witness for this one, otherwise a few questions could have been asked!!! Then Sam was bitten above the eye by a mosquito and by morning, he could not open his eye. He looked as though he had done ten rounds with that moron heavyweight boxer whatshisname. Throughout all this, it was only his parents who were worried - Sam took it all in his stride, literally. It certainly didn't slow him down. He loves his twice-a-week kindergarten, gets on well with all the kinds, and wants to be outdoors all the time. July 2000

Sam likes to help out in the backyard. He is carrying a rather large rock. Note the purple gumboots! At least Sam has plenty of room to play, but Dad needs a ride-on mower - and a new fence. |
Ready with his backpack on, containing nappy, one, bottom, for the use of; change of clothes, and some playtime tucker, Sam heads of for his first day at kindergarten - 10 July 2000 |
| Its bath time for Sam. He loves his bath every evening and will obviously be a water boy - Dad hopes he will come snorkelling in a few years. Maybe Uncle Jim Dyer will teach him scuba diving as Dad has hung up his fins. This photo was taken just a few days before Mum and Dad summoned up the courage to have his beautiful hair cut. The transformation was quite remarkable - he turned from a baby into a boy. And would you believe we forgot to keep a lock of his hair - no, not for a keepsake - Dad wanted it to top his up a bit. |

Sam's first birthday on 22 February 2000 was a quiet affair at home with Mum and Dad, and neighbours, Lyn and Graeme Halloran. Local baker, Paul, made a marvellous Thomas The Tank Engine cake, which Sam managed to destroy and devour - after Mum had taken off his new pyjamas. |
