Sam's birthday cake was a red fire-engine. He has already run his hands through the icing, watched by Sienna with a look of admonishment on her face. |
Sam had a wonderful time for his second birthday. A party
was held at home on Saturday 17 February. Big sister Catherine had come
over from Perth with daughter Sienna - Sam's niece. Anton came down from
Melbourne with his Mum and Dad, and Sam invited his best mate (local) mate
Ryan Collins (below), and his Mum and Dad.

| What a great time Sam had with his friends and rellies in the bakyard of his home. The kids played in the cubby, and the sand pit, and rode on their bikes and were pushed around the garden on 'Tikipoo', the big three-wheeler. | Top: Sam gives his mate Ryan a helping hand to get started.
Bottom: After the party, Sam plays with his tool set given to him by Anton. It was a hot day!! |

On his birthday, 22 February, Sam opened his presents from Mum and Dad, Catherine and Sienna. From Mum and Dad he received a Thomas the Tank Engine train set which Dad promptly set up and played with! Sam also received a golf set from Mum and Dad which gave him the opportunity to destroy the lounge room. Catherine and Sienna gave him several books, and the spiked lion in the background which is actually a crayon set. And Oliver and Fletcher sent over a croaking frog. |
As a special treat, the whole family went down to Wilsons Promontory for the day, where Sam and Sienna romped on the beach at Waratah Bay, and then at beautiful Whisky Beach. The kids had a great time - and so did the adults. This is a beautiful part of the world, with superb beaches which are never crowded. |

Sam had a great time when big sister Catherine, and his neicee Sienna came over from Western Australia for a two week visit. Sienna is just two months younger than Sam and this was the first time that Sam had constant companionship from someone his own age. I think he found it rather bewildering at times, but he abviously loved being with her and was devastated when she left. But it won't be long as we will see them in September. |
It didn't take long before Catherine had the job of reading a storey to her daughter and brother, although such quietude was usually very brief as the restless kids romped around with their toys. |
It wasn't too often that Catherine could relax as the kids needed constant supervision lest they re-enact a scene from Gladiators in an attempt to destroy each other - all in good fun of course. |
Sienna soon took a liking to Grandy, and Grandy loves Sienna. |
Is this the calm before the storm? The kids loved playing together but there were a few minor battle scenes over toys and personal space. But thats what growing up is all about, and the kids soon got the measure of each other. |
Sam and Sienna loved the playground at Waratah Bay, although it took quite a while before they could come to terms with the purple dinosaurs. . |

| In January 2001 the family went to Hamilton
Island in the Whitsunday group, Queensland, for a wonderful ten-day holiday.
It gave Wendy a chance to relax and recouperate after a year of teaching,
and for Sam to enjoy the pool and beach. He had a great time, and in no
time was very confident in the water. The trip also gave Dad an opportunity
to scuba dive after a few years absence. Dad had four dives on the Great
Barrier Reef with H2O Sportz on the island; and also did some snorkelling
at the top of Whitsunday Island with Mum.
The photos show our bungalow in the gardens, at the wildlife sanctuary; Sam 'driving' the electric buggy used to get around the island; Sam and Mum at Romano's Restaurant. |

Sam loved the pools - there were several to choose from, and the beach near the resort complex. It was wonderful to see himself so happy and confident. |

Sam wore his very special Rooster Jones outfit when travelling to and from Hamilton Island on the plane. Thankyou John Knops at Rooster Jones in Goulburn for sending it down to him. He loves it. |
